Clare Hall was delighted to host the opening of its latest art exhibition, Other than Words: A Sense of Release in the Presence of Art, on Thursday 24 September.

The preview drew a wonderful turnout, with Clare Hall members and guests enjoying the opportunity to explore the colourful collection of recent paintings by artist Jerry Scott and spend time together over the course of the evening.

The evening opened with a welcome speech by Professor Frances Spalding, Chair of the Art Committee, and Dr Lucia Tantardini, Official Fellow and Praelector, who introduced the exhibition and reflected on the occasion.

Jerry Scott himself joined us for the preview and shared some thoughts on his work and artistic process, reflecting on his lifelong fascination with colour and the way colour, texture and form emerge through the act of painting.

It was a pleasure to see so many members and guests enjoying the exhibition and bringing the space to life.

Other than Words is on display at Clare Hall until Thursday 12 November 2026 and is open for public viewing Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.
