Sohini Kar-Narayan and Jehangir Cama awarded IOM3 Materials World Medal
Warmest congratulations to Professor Sohini Kar-Narayan and Dr Jehangir Cama, Fellows of Clare Hall, for winning the 2024 IOM3 Materials World Medal. The IOM3 Awards & Prizes are one of the oldest accolades, dating back to at least 1874. These prestigious awards and prizes celebrate individuals and organisations who have made exceptional advancements and contributed significantly to the field of materials, minerals, mining, and associated technical disciplines. The IOM3 Awards & Prizes raise awareness of engineering and scientific excellence and industry best practice, and the Materials World Medal specifically is awarded to the best feature or review published during the year within the Institute’s member magazines.
Professor Kar-Narayan and Dr Cama were awarded for their publication “The sixth sense,” which features the process of developing their novel hip sensor technology and spinout company, ArtioSense. ArtioSense aims to address the clinical need to improve technology for precise orthopaedic surgery. By using microfluidic force sensors to measure the forces passing through a hip implant, surgeons will be better informed to decide the optimal position of the implant for a patient, reducing the chances of implant failure and the need for revision surgery.
We look forward to hearing about the exciting developments in ArtioSense as the project progresses!
