Soapbox Science comes to Cambridge

Soapbox Science is a nationwide initiative created by research biologists Drs Seirian Sumner and Nathalie Pettorelli, designed to address the misconceptions of women in science by communicating cutting-edge scientific ideas directly to the general public. Major building works for Clare Hall scheduled next summer

During the summer of 2017 we will be undertaking major works on our main accommodation block to repair the concrete walkways and balconies. The appointed contractors will have control of the area and access will be restricted.  The work will mean that there will be some noise disturbance and usual college activities may need to be very carefully planned during these dates.  The residential accommodation will not be let during this period and will remain empty so that the contractors and maintenance team can focus on the project and complete the works by the date that has been set.... 50th Anniversary President's XII v Students Cricket Match

All the summer's rain clouds couldn't forestall the success of the Golden Anniversary President's XII v Students (including several elderly ones) cricket match at Leckhampton on June 22nd.A low-scoring match, which brought three hold-outs from last year half-way across the world to play in it, saw the Student score of 67-6 proving enough, surprisingly, to best the President's Men, who finished on 56-4.At the dinner that followed the match, President Ibbetson made a compelling case for his side, captained by Sam Martensz, winning 46-42 (Extras excluded) before sportingly... Message from the Vice-Chancellor on the EU referendum result

We recognise that there is a great deal of uncertainty around the decision to leave the European Union. We would like to reassure our staff that a University working group has met this afternoon following the referendum result and various work streams are underway looking at staff, students, post docs, partnerships and nationality issues. I would like to stress again that, even though the result is in favour of leaving the European Union, there is no immediate change to the University’s teaching, research and other activities. We will continue to work as normal. It is not currently known what... Read more

Porters art exhibition

Head Porters are the unsung heroes of our Colleges and are the subject of a special exhibition by local portrait artist Louise Riley-Smith.  Louise decided to celebrate our Porters after her husband, a retired professor suggested it would be an interesting project. She spent around six hours with each porter, including our own Andy Taylor, to produce twenty five portrait paintings.  These will now be displayed in a special exhibition running from the 18th May – 24th June at The Pitt Building, Trumpington Street, Cambridge CB2 1RP. Louise Riley-...
