Dr Esther Farnós-Amorós
Esther Farnós-Amorós is an Associate Professor of Civil Law at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). Her main field of expertise is Family Law, a topic that she has explored from both the personal and patrimonial spheres. Her main works analyse, usually from a comparative perspective, family self-determination, the effects of matrimonial property regimes during and after family breakdown and legal parenthood, with special attention to parenthood resulting from access to assisted reproductive technologies. She is a member of the Section on the Law of the Persons and Family of the Codification Commission of Catalonia (Justice Department), of the Catalan Commission in charge of developing the Organic Act on Euthanasia and of the Bioethics Commission of Catalonia (Health Department). Over the next few years she plans to orient her research towards the study of how some Family Law and Succession Law rules and instruments can reproduce and legitimize gender inequalities that may originate in family life and its breakdown during life or due to death. The results obtained during her stay at the Cambridge Family Law Centre of the University of Cambridge Faculty of Law, funded by a 6-month Mobility Grant awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Science (1 April-30 September 2026), should guide future research aimed at providing a unified treatment of family property in Spain.
