Dr Jordy Sebastiaan Butter

Jordy is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the High Energy Physics (HEP) group at the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge.

Focusing on analysing data from the Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) experiment near Geneva, Jordy specialises in investigating differences between matter and antimatter through the study of hadrons containing the beauty quark, commonly known as CP violation.

After completing his studies in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Amsterdam, Jordy pursued a PhD at the National Institute for Subatomic Physics (Nikhef), in Amsterdam. The research focused on hadrons containing b quarks decaying to Ds mesons and charged hadrons. Notably, Jordy contributed to various analyses exploring the magnitude and phase of the transition of beauty to up quarks, Vub.
Having defended a PhD thesis titled “b→u” in June 2023, Jordy moved to the United Kingdom to start a PostDoc at the University of Cambridge. The current research involves studying B to VV-type decays, specifically focusing on decays of Bs mesons to two neutral K* mesons. The primary objective is to measure the weak phase phi_s and to explore any manifestations of physics beyond the Standard Model.
